It is important to choose the right flag to fly. Flags vary in weight, appearance, strength and 'flying ability'. Use the information below to select the most suitable flag from the Flags Fantastic range to best suit your requirements.
FULLY SEWN FLAGS
Fully Sewn Flag

Fully sewn flags are hand made. They take time to complete as each colour fabric is multilayered for strength and effect through a process known as hand appliqué.

The fabric is robust and as resistant as possible to inclement weather making them ideally suited to conditions where high flying stresses are expected and constant.

Fully sewn flags require intensive skill and time to manufacture. This leads to a price premium over their screenprinted counterpart.

PRINTED FLAGS
Superwoven Flag

Generally lighter weight, printed flags enable constant quality display by way of eventual replacement rather than maintenance. Whether manufactured screenprinted or digitally printed, up to date production methods ensure flags of International Standard in exterior-use durability, dye fastness and correct colour coding.

The processes include double side bleed-through dye immersion with a strong, mirror image colour depth on the reverse side; colours baked into the fabric weave at high temperature (screen printed flags), numerous wash cycles to remove and clear excess dyes and then checked for accurate colour matching before sewing.

Superwoven flags are screenprinted on the same tough woven bunting fabric as used in Fully Sewn flags, but without the time consuming appliqué procedures. Being of a heavier weight these flags will take a more moderate breeze to fly than Superknit flags thereby promoting maximum longevity and offering excellent value for money.

Superknit flags conversely being a much lighter weight are an excellent alternative with their ease of 'fly ability' requiring only slight to moderate breezes to fly. A popular choice for many, they are also favoured by studios for use in photographic shoots, advertising and marketing promotions because of their brilliant 'lustrous sheen' appearance. Coupled with their lower unit cost, Superknit flags are the ideal choice for those where an impressive constant display is the foremost prerequisite. Multiple production runs of these flags digitally printed means the cost can sometimes be half that of fully sewn flags.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE
Selecting the right size flag for your needs is important. The appropriate size flag for display outdoors is determined by the type of flagpole and the length of the flagpole.

The general rule is that the longest length of your flag should be close to 1/3 the length of your in-ground flagpole. For example a 6 metre or 20' flagpole should fly a 1.8 x .9m 'or 6' x 3' flag. A 9 metre or 30' flagpole should display a 2.7 x 1.37m or 9' x 4.5' flag. When a larger, more impressive look is desired you may up-grade to the next largest size.

For displaying a flag attached to a wall-mounted flagpole of up to 6 metres in height, the most commonly used flag size for this application is the standard size 1.8 x .9m or 6' x 3' flag.

The recommendations for flags flown on shorter flagpoles on buildings do vary from those for in-ground poles. In such cases the length of the flag may be larger than the 1/3 the height of the pole rule, the guide here is for the flag to be proportionate to its eventual height on the flagpole.

BOATING FLAGS
Australian Ensign
The size of a nautical flag is determined by the size of the boat that flies it.

The guideline for choosing the correct size flag for a boat is that the length of the flag should equal one (1) inch for each foot of boat length. For example, a 24' boat should fly an ensign that is 24 inches at the fly (long) end.

If the flag sizes available do not exactly match the length of your boat, select the next larger size, not the smaller one.
